Bio

The Old Dirt Road Band plays traditional Country, Bluegrass & Gospel music and was formed in 2016 by David Culbertson, a previous member of the Cypress Creek Band for 16 years along with other former band members of the Cypress Creek Band. David is the only remaining founding member of the band, however the band continues to grow in popularity and is now playing many senior living centers in the Southeast Texas area.

The ODR band has experience playing everything from restaurants, bluegrass festivals, local bars, weddings, retirement communities and private parties of all kinds.  We can provide as many musicians as your event requires from just one or two individuals up to a five-piece band with harmony vocals.

Even though the band specializes in traditional country music from the 1940's through the present, they started as a bluegrass band and still bring that flare and all acoustic sound mixed with electric Telecaster Country Sound to their shows.  The ODR Band is now booking shows for 2023 and beyond.  To book the band, please contact David Culbertson by phone (832-544-4373) or email (dculbertson55@att.net).

The Old Dirt Road Band

David Culbertson (Guitar/Vocals) - David has been playing bluegrass and country guitar since the mid 1980's and was a founding member of the Cypress Creek Bluegrass Band in 2002.  In 2016 David formed the "Old Dirt Road Band" including most of the Cypress Creek band members.  Each of those original members has since moved on with other life endeavors but the band continues to play for audiences of all sizes either as a soloist or accompanied by as many of the band members as the event requires.  David's primary focus continues to be classic country, bluegrass and gospel music as well as song writing.

Ivan Collins (Vocals/Fiddle/Mandolin) - When I was 7 years old my best friend Marty had an insistent mom that wanted her son to play the violin that had been passed to her by her grandfather.   Marty and I, like most of second graders, were mostly interested in GI Joe action figures and playing little league baseball.   Marty’s mom talked to my mom and worked out a deal where she would let Marty play little league with me as long as I took string class with Marty.   Now years later, neither of us can play baseball but I am still playing violin.

I played all through school and even studied music for a couple of years at West Texas State.   I spent several years in the US Navy Submarine force and did not play but when I was discharged, I wound up in Houston and attended a church that had a small group of musicians that played during the worship service.   They kindly allowed me to join them, and I have been playing in church since 1997.   Recently, I began to expand my playing experiences by learning to play fiddle style.  I love playing and singing and the Old Dirt Road Band has given me the opportunity to have fun doing what I love to do.

Kevin Groover (Vocals/Bass/Guitar) - Kevin is a fantastic musician who is capable of playing a wide variety of instruments including guitar, bass and viola just to name a few.  He has been playing music for many years and is the current bass player for the Old Dirt Road Band where he is instrumental in orchestrating their very dynamic sound.

Jennifer Wall (Vocals) - Jennifer grew up listening to Country & Western music after hearing Gene Watson and Don Williams for the first time at a family gathering. Shortly thereafter her family got their own turntable and began collecting albums, spending hours in sound rooms listening for nuances in the voices of country legends. Jennifer says she is blessed to be a member of the Old Dirt Road Band, lending vocals for Country & Western, Gospel and Bluegrass tunes. Two of Jennifer's three sons are vocalists/musicians as well, the eldest is a realtor in the Katy area.
